On October 10, Full Circle was blessed with glorious weather for Belong: A Free Community Performance in beautiful Eager Park in East Baltimore. We loved sharing excerpts from our new works with an enthusiastic all-ages audience. Pre-schoolers danced along as we warmed up in the park to prepare for our show. Families brought picnics and basked in the unexpected warmth of the late afternoon sun. We even had a few high-rise rooftop spectators!
One first-time Full Circle audience member, who was moved to tears by the performance, said, "It was such a gift to see the brilliant Full Circle performance on a gorgeous fall day in Eager Park. Each piece, with a compelling social justice message woven through the movement, invited us to consider with compassion and care....Such a wonderful example of community, of teaching, of learning, of sharing."
We were joined in this show by five young artists, aged 13-17, who are repertory students of the Morton Street Dance Center. They performed "Women Surrounding" created by Full Circle company member Morgan James. James described the work as "the story of an audacious young woman and her trying, yet loving, relationship with the village of women who raised her." The brave, passionate performance by these emerging young artists inspired us and our audience.
It is not easy to prepare an outdoor community space for a professional dance performance. Our Full Circle team, young guest artists, and volunteers worked together to create a safe and beautiful stage. It reminded us that we are literally a dance family, and that Baltimore is our dance home.
We are grateful for the support of this free performance we received from Eager Park/NEBCA, the Robert W. Deutsch Foundation, The Maryland State Arts Council, and the Baltimore Office of Promotion and the Arts.
